Seattle’s Savings for Seniors From City Hall

January 2, 2015

FLASH_Gold_CardsThe CB is starting off the year with a senior discount deal because I’d like to focus some of my efforts on savings for senior citizens. No, it’s not because I turned 50 and AARP has been sending me letters every couple of weeks trying to get me to join. Instead, it’s because there are a lot of savings out there that I’ve never covered including some really great deals that a lot of people don’t know about.

Like the Gold Card for Healthy Aging from the Seattle Mayor’s Office For Senior Citizens. AARP Washington says this handy, dandy little piece of plastic gets folks over 60 a whole bunch of great discounts and deals including FREE entry into the Seattle Aquarium, low cost entry to Woodland Park Zoo…and if seeing all those animals inspires them to seek animal companionship they can even get discounts on adoptions at Seattle Animal Shelters as well as half off dog and cat licenses.

The discounts don’t stop there, though. There’s a whole directory filled with discounts on everything from auto repair and hardware to recreation and the performing arts. It can also help seniors sign up for nutrition programs and find other resources that may help them stay healthy while aging well.

The card is available to residents of Seattle AND King County and is available through the Mayor’s Office for Senior Citizens, Seattle Animal Control Offices, Seattle Neighborhood Service Centers, Seattle Parks and Recreation Community Centers and area senior centers.

So, if you’re a senior and you haven’t already cashed in on this, you should. And if you’re the son or daughter of a local senior, you should tell them about it. After all, they spend money on your kids, why shouldn’t you help them save money while they do it?

One final note, the CB will continue his regular line of deals, but hopes to add senior discounts to the mix (and maybe even do one big section or post about local discounts). So, if you come across a regular discount for seniors whether it be Wednesdays at Ross Dress for Less or weekly deals at Uwajimaya, please send it to me and I’ll post it.
