Free World AIDS Day Concert For All Ages Monday

November 30, 2014

WoPop-concertThe Cheap Bastard doesn’t know about you, but he always finds the first day back at work (0r school) after Thanksgiving break so exhausting that he almost needs a small break or a mini vacation to look forward to just to get him through the day. And the EMP will have just what he’s always wished for,but didn’t know it: a free Monday evening concert and cultural festival.

It’s the WO’POP World Aids Day Concert featuring world music artists like Chimurenga Renaissance including Tendai “Baba” Maraire of Shabazz Palaces (yeah, I know, I hadn’t heard of them, either) and Thomas Mapfumo & The Blacks Unlimited. There will also be world music selections by KEXP Wo’Pop DJ Darek Mazzone throughout the evening.

The gathering will also focus on African art and culture.

The event runs from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Monday at the EMP Sky Church and is open to all ages and will also include snacks, education, culture and plenty of cool stuff. Although the concert is free, you have to RSVP. I’m not sure how limited the space is or how many people have already replied, but you should RSVP early to make sure you get in.

The event is sponsored by the Gates Foundation, KEXP, EMP Museum and Lifelong.

Thanks to Queen Anne View.
