Cheap Buzzes: Wednesday Whisky Tasting and Grocery Outlet Wine Sale

November 5, 2014

2014_November_Wine_Sale_RevSome days, things just come together in a thematic way. Take two of today’s deals.

The first is a free whiskey tasting at Wine World in Wallingford where there will be a tasting event that includes free sips of an 8 year old Isle of Sky, a 10 year Tamdhu, a 10 year Arran, Smokehead, Kilchoman Machir Bay and Arran Malt Amarone Cask (all of which sounds more Greek to me than actual Scottish, but then again, that’s me).

The tasting will run from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight (11/5) and will be led by Chris Uhde, district manager of Western Regional Impex Beverages. Uhde just happens to be a Whiskey Expert for United Scottish Society of Southern California, so you should be in good hands, even if he is thousands of miles from home.

If wine is more your thing, then you’ll probably want to consider a longer lasting event, Grocery Outlet’s 20% off all wine in stock sale, which starts today and runs through Nov. 9th.

Go ahead, snicker if you will, but the place my family and friends love to call Smashed Foods carries quite a range of good, high quality wines for prices far below what you would find in other stores for the same stuff. So you’re not just saving the 50% or so that you would typically be saving on such stuff, you’re also tacking on an additional 20 percent on top of that.

Here’s another little known secret. If you buy a bunch of bottles of wine at Grocery Outlet for a party or some event and you don’t end up drinking them all, you can return the unopened bottles for a full refund.

Considering that the holidays are almost here, this could the perfect chance to buy a bunch of bottles before all of the holiday dinner invitations hit and you have to purchase them anyway at much higher prices.

I’m just sayin’……
