Free Live Music in Ballard…Now until 5 PM

May 30, 2014

UnknownThe Cheap Bastard admits he doesn’t listen to KEXP, but he loves free live music and Ballard is where it’s at today because the neighborhood won a fund-raising contest held by KEXP and will be the site of a live broadcast from noon to 5 today. The broadcast is just part of the festivities, however, but it’s a good place to start.

The broadcast, which is already in progress, is from Hilliard’s Brewery and will feature a live set by The Faint at 1 p.m., a set by Iska Dhaaf at 3 p.m. and another by Katie Kate at 5.

There’s also a first-ever Record Fair featuring participating local record labels and businesses such as

Barsuk, Sonic Boom and Subpop Records at the Sunset Tavern with live DJs (which is much better than dead djs, I guess) including such luminaries as Jason Scott Dodson [The Maldives] at 1 and Cherry Canoe aka Kerri Harrop [KEXP] at 3.

As if that weren’t enough, KEXP DJs will be spinning at various locations from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight including DJ Chilly (is it cold in here or is it just him?) at La Isla and DJ Larry Rose at the Bastille Cafe and Bar.

The fun continues into the evening, but it’s not free. The Tractor Tavern is hosting a live music showcase from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. and the Sunset Tavern is also hosting another live music showcase from 7 to midnight. Both shows have an $8 cover or $5 for KEXP donors with a KEXP card.

A variety of Ballard businesses are also offering discounts and a monster prize package.

For more details and the entire list of businesses with discounts, check out the KEXP Hood-to-Hood Web Page and get a move on…the free stuff only lasts until 5!
