And Now For Something Completely Different….The Sequel

January 3, 2013

One last piece of business before the CB calls it a night.

Enough of you have expressed interest in getting together and having a Cheap Bastard meeting that the CB is going to plan one for this month. All he has to do is find the right place. While the CB initially suggested Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park, one reader who lives in Renton and has no car requested a more central location. So, the CB is open to suggestions.

Since he doesn’t know how many folks will actually attend, it makes more sense to stake out a table or two at a local coffee shop, book store or gathering point rather than booking a room at a library. He also thinks it would be best to meet around 7 to allow everyone time to have dinner and recover from rush hour traffic.

The challenge is, he doesn’t know any centrally located place that would meet all those requirements in the evening. So far, the best he’s been able to come up with includes:

Starbucks across from Seattle Pacific University
Pike Place Brewing (which may be loud)
Elliott Bay Bookstore Cafe (which may be too small)
Wayward Coffee House (65th and Roosevelt)
Peet’s Coffee and Tea in either Fremont or Greenlake but size and business hours might prove problematic

Anybody else have any ideas?

Please drop the CB a line. He would love to have the meeting before the end of the month.

Looking forward to meeting you all. And thanks for keep coming back to the blog.

Hello again, Burien, I live in Burien (not Renton) and seldom go anywhere north of the city, so I think downtown would be the fairest to all. Not on a thursday or friday as it is too busy I would recommend maybe a monday (many places have all day happy hours) or tuesday.
Pike Place is a great place and there is enough room to find a quiet corner but happy hour is only until 6pm, so maybe set the meeting for 5.30pm. Ivars by the ferry has a great monday happy hour with food and drinks for cheap and enough room in the bar.
P.S. I prefer beer and fish and chips to coffee and cake

I would attend the meeting. I liked your third place books idea at Lake Forest Park, other ideas which avoid down town would be great.

What about booking a “community room” at a public library?

    Just a thought.

    Happy New Year.
