And Now For Something Completely Different…

December 7, 2012

Blogging is a strange experience. You write a lot of stuff, you post it and you hope that people read it. Sometimes the cheap bastard hears back, sometimes he doesn’t and sometimes it rains. Of course, the CB can see the number of views he gets every day, but after two years he wonders if he’s meeting the need. Is he giving you the deals you want and the information you need given that he’s also a full time, stay-at-home dad and full time freelance writer? It’s a lot of hard work and until the next edition comes out, the only reward is knowing that he knows he’s saving you money because goodness knows, he isn’t getting paid for this.

No, this isn’t an appeal for money or even a farewell, but the CB does feel a need to do something differently in the coming year. The deal round-up is one attempt to shake things up. The other is a question:

How would you folks like to have a Cheap Bastard get-together?

Not a big party, mind you. Just a gathering at a table at a place like Third Place Books Lake Forest Park or some other coffee shop in the new year to talk about deals, savings and other ways of living the good life for less.

This wouldn’t be a reading or a book signing as much as it would be a chance to get out of the house, meet and see how we can help each other out in interesting economic times.

So, tell the CB, what do you think? Is this something that would interest you? And how often? Just once? Twice? Three times a lady?

The CB apologizes for that last comment, he couldn’t help himself.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Now, back to the deals.

I think a gathering at Third Place Books would be wonderful and maybe depending on interest on a monthly basis.  It would give all of us a chance to brainstorm ideas and connect with other people with anorexic budgets and/or a similar desire to utilize and appreciate what we have more fully.  As a small-business owner who is home-based it would allow me to venture out of my hermit life and connect with real instead of virtual people!  On a personal note I think the work you do in connecting people with opportunities to live more creatively and in a sense gain more with less is very inspiring.  Keep up the great work!

Hi, I would love to meet the other side of this awesome site and everybody who’s thrifty needs to join in with their ideas. I am in Burien though with no car, so let’s keep it central.
I used to be called the happy hour queen of Seattle and I have many good suggestions myself for never paying the whole price and never buying new!
