A Day That Will Live In Infamy, Deals That Won’t

December 7, 2012

300047_465054920197042_986747439_nMaybe it’s because today is the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor that prompted the US to enter into what became World War II or perhaps it’s because he’s tired, but whatever the reason, the Cheap Bastard is feeling uninspired today. Yes, there are deals out there, but most of them rate a MEH on the CB’s excite-o-meter. Still, there are some deals and this is his job, so here goes:

Screen Shot 2012-11-27 at 10.13.29 AMSock It To Me–As the CB has already mentioned in his deal of the day, Whole Foods is selling Sockeye Salmon for 7.99/lb today only. The good news is, it’s a great deal. The bad news is that it means the CB doesn’t have an excuse for going on a fish run to Costco just so he can try samples.

SIFF Cinema Membership Deal–If you love movies…really love movies of all kinds, Groupon and the Seattle International Film Festival Cinema has a deal for you that includes popcorn, film discounts and early bird specials on film festival passes. Join at the Enthusiast level for $25 ($55 value) and get up to half off tickets to SIFF Cinema films, a punch card for five small popcorns and three issues of Seattle Met or become a Benefactor member for $59 ($125 value) and also get two free tix to a SIFF Cinema screening , two free tix to a film festival screening, priority invites to free screenings, recognition in the festival catalog and a full year subscription to Seattle Met Mag.

Family Fun Deal–It’s never cheap to go to a fair or any place that bills itself as a family fun center, but Groupon and the Family Fun Center in Tukwila have a deal that makes it a little more affordable. Get a 110 point family pass for $13 ($26 value). To put it into perspective, a ride on the bumper cars costs 22 points, go karts 28 points and mini golf 28 points.

Menchie’s Waffle Bowls–The Cheap Bastard isn’t quite sure if this Menchie’s and Living Social deal is better than the $5 for $10 or not, but it could be. Get four frozen yogurt waffle bowls for $12 ($25 value). If it’s a deal for whatever you can fit in the bowl regardless of weight, then this is a steal, especially after some of the architectural miracles he’s seen other people pull off at Menchie’s. The only thing the CB doesn’t like is that it isn’t good at the U Village location. It is good at Queen Anne, Federal Way, Bellevue, Lynnwood and Puyallup, however.

SBC SODO’s Free Coffee Week–The CB’s contact at SBC tells him SBC’s SODO store will be having another big deal for commuters next week. The drive-through will be offering a free cup of any size brewed coffee from Dec. 9th through 15th. No coupon required. You can cash in on this one several times a day if you prefer and you’ll be able to choose from Original or Dark blend plus flavored creamer options including vanilla, caramel or hazelnut at no additional charge. Okay, so maybe this deal might be slightly inspiring, but it doesn’t start until next week.

Savings to date: $20,695.53.
