Veterans Day Deal Round-up

November 9, 2012

As the husband of a member of the military, I appreciate the idea that there’s at least one day every year when we honor the service of the military, but I wish we paid a little more attention the rest of the year. I am constantly surprised at the number of businesses that have signs that say “We Support the Troops” that don’t at least offer discounts for said troops.

It’s almost as if we love to see someone in a freshly pressed uniform heading off to battle, but don’t want to have anything to do with them when they come back injured or broken. C’mon people. These people are working to keep us free. Don’t we owe them something more than one day of freebies, a heart-felt handshake and a “thank you for your service”? President Obama tried to pass an employment package for returning veterans, but the Republican run Congress turned it back without so much as a vote before the election. Aren’t these the same pro-military Republicans who accused Democrats of not supporting the troops? Even during the campaign just passed, I did my best to keep politics out of the blog. I admit I didn’t always succeed, but isn’t it time we did something for these folks?

The discounts and freebies listed below are nice, but it sure would be nicer if we had a Veterans Year rather than just a Veterans Day:
