That’s right. The Capitol Hill burger stand will be giving away free burgers from 2 to 5 p.m. on Monday.

Limit 1 per person, add-ons and special toppings extra. Everything else regular price.

If you happen to be free or can get away from the office at, oh, say, right about now, you might be able to cash in on a giveaway the Skillet food truck is having at McGraw Square downtown starting at 11:30 today. In celebration of the release of “The Hangover 3,” the folks in the fun food truck will give each customer a free slider and order or fries.

Woe be unto you if you’re number 151.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, McGraw Square is at 531 Stewart Street. And no, we hadn’t heard of it either…until now. The CB thinks there’s no actual square there and that they’re just making the name up. But that’s another story for another time.

The Cheap Bastard puts the word just in quotation marks because, well, the regular price of a Goldstar membership is….tada…$55.

There are a few bonuses of course. If you’re a new member, you’ll get $50 worth of coupons that include a free rotisserie chicken, a free 48-pack of batteries and a free case of Kirkland water. If you’re already a member, you can use the deal to upgrade your membership to Business Membership or Executive Membership which includes a 2% discount on purchases.

So, if you were to join and use every single coupon, the deal would cost you about $5, but only if you don’t include the stuff you’d have to buy to get the discounts.

The CB thinks it’s a so-so deal, but then again, he already has a Costco membership. So, you be the judge. And if you’ve been thinking about joining anyway, this is the deal for you.

7-11′s Memorial Day weekend deal may not be as good, but it’s close. The last time the CB bought a small, he recalls it was close to $1 and that was for a small, so getting a Medium Slurpee for 50 cents isn’t too shabby. The deal runs from Friday, May 24-Monday, May 27th and features some of the new summer Slurpee flavors including Sugar Free Sprite and Fanta Oddball Orange. 

Don’t view this as having to pay for something you can get for free later. Look at it as a chance to do a practice run at a reduced price. 

Talk about a tough choice. The Cheap Bastard lives near the Bryant Corner Cafe, which is selling 16 ounce lattes for $2 today (Wednesday), but McDonald’s has a deal on a small Blueberry Pomegranate Smoothie for just $1 through Thursday. And the McDonald’s is only about a mile further away from the Bryant Corner.

Since he loves independent businesses, he’ll likely opt for the $2 latte today…and maybe go to McDonald’s tomorrow.

Who says you can’t have it all?

The CB found a lot of good deals this time around and he plans to keep most of them under wraps until the book comes out, but there was one that was too good not to share. And that’s the Bryant Corner Cafe.

Formerly known as Sunflower Cafe, this small eatery in Seattle’s Bryant neighborhood (3118 NE 65th St) has good deals every day of the business week. On Mondays, one child eats free with each purchase of an adult entree and I’m told the French Toast dish on the child’s menu is almost enough for two meals. On Tuesday, cookies are half off. On Wednesday, 16 ounce lattes are $2. On Thursday, pastries are half off. 

The Friday deal may be the best of all, though. You can get a full-sized loaf of homemade wheat bread for $1.90. That’s amazing!

Right now, the cafe is only open until 2 p.m., but I understand that the owners eventually plan to start offering dinner. 

Remember, this is just one of the deals in the new “Cheap Bastard’s Guide to Seattle” due out this fall. 

Yes, the Cheap Bastard knows it’s late, almost too late for you to see this on Thursday, but he hopes you’ll see it before you head out on Friday morning, especially if you’re planning on biking to work today. 

In celebration of F5 Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 17th (that’s this Friday), participating Starbucks are offering a free cup of coffee to anyone who shows up wearing a bike helmet or other bike gear all day long. 

That’s just part of the fun for bikers, though. The day’s events include a Ride to Seattle With Mayor McGinn at 7:30 and a rally at City Hall at 8 a.m. featuring snacks and cool swag. 

There will also be lots of commuting stations where bikers can go to get free swag, snacks and other cool stuff. 

And then there are the parties. Peddler Brewing Company is offering a pint for half off to anyone who shows up on a bike between 5 and 10 p.m. And F5 is hosting an After Party at Via6 (6th Ave. North and Blanchard) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. featuring snacks and drinks from tom Douglas Restaurants. 

Sounds like a great day to ride a bike. 

It’s only two days late, not bad considering a series of extenuating circumstances, which you’ll get to read about in the dedication and the acknowledgments when the book comes out.

Yes, it took a long time to get it done and I’m glad this portion of the update is finally over, but when you see the new book, you’ll know it was definitely worth it if only for the additional pages of places where kids eat free. And that’s just a small part of what’s new this time around.

It may be a day early for the Cheap Bastard’s return and a day after his manuscript is due, but he has come out of seclusion to let you know that today is free cone day at participating Haagen Dazs stores. 

The event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. and the closest store to the Bastard is the one in the University District and if that store is participating as it has in year’s past you can bet that the Bastard and his family (whatever you do, don’t call them the Bastard Family) will be there in line today. By the time he gets to the line the CB desperately hopes he’s finally finished with this manuscript.
